William Hill Stops Ladbrokes-Playtech Merger
03/03/2011, Online casino
William Hill has recently secured an interim injunction against Playtech, to stop all merger talks between its software developer and its rival, Ladbrokes. Playtech and Ladbrokes were thought to be in talks over a £2.2 billion merger. Although the two parties have never admitted the merger talks, William Hill said the injunction has stopped Playtech from selling its software to Ladbrokes, blocking it from changing the terms of their joint venture agreement. Playtech, valued at £846.68 million, also supplies software to Tote and Betfred. “Playtech recently initiated discussions with William Hill seeking possible significant amendments to the current William Hill Online joint venture agreements. There has also been press speculation regarding discussions between Playtech and Ladbrokes plc,” said in a statement released last week. In November 2008 William Hill and Playtech have signed a five-year agreement which doubled the UK bookmaker's online revenues. The software provider has a 29 percent stake in William Hill Online. William Hill is one of the largest and safest bookmakers in the United Kingdom. Related news
