According to the official website of the movie, “Hitting The Nuts” is the 'true story' of the annual illegal poker championship in Scott County, Indiana.
'Hitting the nuts: The True Story of the Scott County Series of Poker' only pretends to be about poker. In fact, the story is about “an outrageous group of blue-blooded American misfits who have spent a lot less time hitting the nuts in life…and a lot more time being hit in the nuts by life.”
The movie is a Rebel Pilgrim Production, written and directed by Joe Boyd. Boyd appears in the movie as Amish farmer and poker player, Aezekiel Yoder.
Since the movie's release on DVD on April 15th, the company has sold half of their initial run of DVD's. Joe Boyd, the producer and director, says: “Since last Friday we have sold over half of our initial run of DVDs. Hundreds were pre-ordered and it hasn’t slowed down since our release on the 15th.”
“Hitting the nuts” has already won important awards such as the “Audience Choice Award”at the 2010 Cincinnati Film Festival and the “Best Feature Film” award at the 2011 Derby City Film Festival.
Kristopher Rommel, the Derby City Film Festival Director described the film as: “Perhaps the funniest movie in the history of our film festival”.
When a player “hits the nuts”, it means he cannot lose, because he is holding the best hand possible in that given scenario. The film features a number of funny and interesting characters, such as a returning champion, a busty waitress, a town preacher and a man who idolizes Phil Hellmuth and who never plays the first few hands of the tournament.
