The Role Of Women In Poker In 2010
23/11/2010, Players

2010 was an incredible year in poker. Although you may see poker as a men's game, 2010 was the year in which women managed to dominate the world of poker, something almost unheard in the poker world of the past. Women have become a force at the poker table lately, proving their skills and intelligence and winning event after event.

Mike Matusow even engaged himself in a bet, saying he would walk completely naked on the Las Vegas Boulevard, if women won three World Series Of Poker bracelets this year. Eventually, he kept his clothes on and everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
When most of the women around the globe were extremely disappointed to see that another year went by without any major victory, their thoughts suddenly changed.

According to Rebekah Mercer, the editor and senior staff writer for PokerStars Women, 2010 has been a fantastic year for women in poker. Everything has changed lately and women have gained a well-deserved popularity in this area, and especially the PokerStars female players.
Rebekah Mercer refers to major victories for women this year, including Vanessa Selbst's incredible win at the PokerStars NAPT Mohegan Sun in April, where she collected over $750,000 for her efforts.

A few weeks later, Liv Boeree won the European Poker Tour San Remo main event, which brought her the fabulous prize of €1,250,000. Her victory was highly publicized and brought her a well-deserved fame.

In October Selbst registered another huge success, finishing the forth in the European Poker Tour London High Roller Event, where she won $226.910. And that was not all. A few weeks ago she went to France, where she cashed in the biggest prize of his poker career. Selbst won the Partouche Poker Tour for over €1.3 million.

On November 15th, Shin Young-Im, a female poker player from Korea, participated at the final table of the Asian Pacific Poker Tour Cebu Main Event and won the title, becoming the first female winner of the APPT Main Event. Shin Young-Im, who has been playing poker for two years, entered the APPT Cebu Main Event after qualifying in a $22 tournament on PokerStars.net.

Thanks to their impressive results, Vanessa Selbst and Liv Boeree became part of the PokerStars team of professionals.
