The Martingale Betting System is a betting strategy which was very popular in the 18th century in France.

The Martingale strategy is a very old and extremely simple system based on the probability of losing infinite times in a row. It is usually applied to 'even money' bets.
The main strategy is to double your bet after each loss and keep using this system until the first win, then go back to the original bet.

For example, if you are playing a three dollar bet, the progression will look like this:
Bet $3. Let's say you win, so you should bet $3 again.
If you lose, double your bet to $6.
If you lose again, bet $12 and so on until recovering all your bets plus one unit profit.

The Martingale system can be used as a sure method of winning, the results leading to a good chance of small short-term wins, with a smaller chance of incurring large losses. But you should have an unlimited bankroll because in case of the long run, there could be abnormal streaks.

Besides the Martingale betting system, there is another strategy called the D'Alembert system, which is based on raising your bet by one unit after you lose, or lowering the bet by one unit after you win.
Each bet will be either 1 unit higher or 1 unit lower than the last one, depending if you win or lose.

Both the Martingale and the D'Alembert betting systems are recommended for increasing the player's enjoyment, but you should use this strategies very cautiously and never let yourself lose more than you can afford.
