Charles Deville Wells was born in 1841 and he became one of the most famous gamblers in the history. He was the inspiration behind the song “The Man Who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo” by Fred Gilbert. Legend says that whenever he walked into a nightclub, the band would immediately begin playing the song.

In 1981, he went to Monte Carlo and turned around £4000 into 1 million francs after playing on roulette for eleven hours, including one stretch in which he won more than 20 spins out of 30. He broke the bank for 12 times. Soon after that, Charles Wells returned for another game and won another million winning on the five spot five consecutive times.

Although private detectives were hired in order to find out what was his secret system, no one could ever prove that he used such kind of things.
It is said that his winnings were the result of a scam and that he used to defraud investors who believed he was an inventor who needed money for testing and researching his designs.
His tempestuous life game experience ended as fast as it began. He begged money from everyone and lost it, then he was arrested at La Havre and he was sentenced for 8 years for fraud. In 1926, he died penniless in Paris.
Charles Wells is considered the luckiest casino player ever and a legend in the world of gambling.

As for the most unlucky casino player ever, it is hard to decide or to name one.
