Problem Gambling Clinic Receives Half A Million Sterling From RGF
20/04/2011, Casino
A problem gambling clinic based in the United Kingdom's Soho district has received a whopping GBP 500,000 from the Responsible Gambling Fund (RFG). The money was donated to provide treatment and professional counselling – also called Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or CBT, to players suffering from severe gambling problems. The National Problem Gambling Clinic provides treatment and makes exclusive use of the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, claiming a high success rate of 75%. According to the British Gambling Prevalence Survey, which was conducted between 2007 and 2010, gambling amongst women has increased from 65% to 71%. For this reason, women will be able to receive online or on the phone counselling over the next year. Moreover, women with children will soon be able to able to leave their kids with the clinic's childminder whilst they attend the counselling sessions. The chairperson of the RGF, Baroness Julia Neuberger, said this week: “NPGC is one of the organisations at the forefront in the battle against problem gambling, especially in targeting groups of people who can’t easily get help or who have fallen outside the reach of other services. I am delighted that RGF’s grant will support this pioneering clinic’s work.” Related news
