Emotional Control in Poker
16/12/2009, Game rules
Most people know that emotions are difficult to control.
Knowing how to keep your emotions under control is essential when gambling in a land-based casino.
Professional players hardly ever show their emotions while playing, especially the poker pros who cannot afford their opponents to read or to take advantage of their intentions.

Not being able to control your emotions can have disastrous consequences when playing in a land-based casino.
Look at Doyle Brunson, Allen Cunningham, or Johnny Chan and see how they manage to hide their thoughts and how they win year after year.

Poker players should play each hand as if it were a brand new one, trying to forget about their negative feelings caused by other past hands. However, best players usually memorize important information from the past hands.
If you cannot gain control of your thoughts and if you are over reacting, laughing, making noise, etc, while playing in a tournament, for example, you should better get up and walk away.

So, don't lose your temper and always look for changes in your opponents playing attitude. Anticipating your opponent's next move could help you to plan your own moves in advance and to determine your success.
Don't waste your time thinking about your luck, when you should concentrate more on making the correct play. Emotional control and personal discipline are essential for your success.

“The Technical Aspects of Trading Emotions” study describes her opinion about how to achieve your emotional control, by following a few steps:

Know what you are going to do before you do it;
Develop your own unique Trading Style (strategy);
Ignore the Money;
Don't count your profits before the trade is completed;
Know your risk tolerance;
Know your Financial Self-Worth;
Treat it like a Business;
Be Self-Reliant and take responsibility for your trades.

Your emotional control will become better and stronger if you continue disciplining yourself by not letting outside forces to affect you negatively.
These restrictions do not necessarily apply in online gaming, where players can enjoy the silence and the comfort of their own house.
