Captain Brunson Abandons The DoylesRoom.com Ship
16/05/2011, Online poker
Doyle Brunson, the Godfather of Poker, will no longer be representing the online poker website DoylesRoom.com. The 77-year-old poker legend has been the head of the online poker room since the website's foundation in 2004. The decision to quit the site is due to the uncertainty of the legal situation following the events of the Black Friday. Apparently, the DoylesRoom.com has continued to accept US players even after the US online poker ban. Here is what the 10-time WSOP bracelet winner said in a press release: “Reluctantly, I have decided to terminate my endorsement contract with DoylesRoom.com. It pains me to leave at this time. I have aspirations of reentering the online poker business when the United States Government passes legislation, that officially legalize online poker sites. DoylesRoom management has decided to continue to serve U.S. customers. Although they believe they have the right to market the name DoylesRoom and to use my name and likeness for a period of time, I have asked them not to. Good luck-Shuffle up and deal.” In the meantime, the online poker website will continue to use Brunson's image and his likeliness. The site has recently switched networks, moving from Cake Poker Network to Yatahay Poker Network. "Doyle Brunson was a sponsored pro of DoylesRoom and he has left his endorsement contract. We have purchased his image and likeness and are allowed to continue to use those. Doyle will still continue to play in the Bounty tournament," a spokesperson of the website said. The legendary poker pro is one of the best-known poker players in history. He has played professionally for over 50 years and he's the first two-time WSOP main event champion to win consecutively, in 1976 and 1977. During his long poker career, Doyle Brunson has managed to win ten WSOP bracelets and a World Poker Tour championship. He is the author of several books on poker and member of the Poker Hall of Fame.
